Most of underground powerhouses in India employ a bank of 3 single-phase Generator Transformers to evacuate generated power due to its enormous advantage in transportation as well as in handling in difficult hilly sites. In case of Tehri HPP, 3-phase Generator Transformer is used which is installed in close proximity of machine hall. Tehri GT's are housed in a transformer hall cavern, which is in parallel to the machine hall of underground powerhouse having 4 units of 250 MW each. Generator Transformers have been supplied and erected by BHEL, Bhopal.
