The construction of India7#x0027;s highest earth & rock fill Tehri Dam entailed large-scale displacement of people, involving Old Tehri Town & 109 fully & partially affected rural villages. The formulation of R&R Policy necessitated extensive consultations with local population, constitution of expert Committee headed by Prof. Hanumantha Rao and discussions at various levels of State & Central Govt. for improvement/additional measures from time to time. R&R policy of Tehri Dam Project was so attractive that even Hon'ble Supreme Court of India upheld the sufficiency of package. This paper is an attempt to bring out the basic principles & objectives which resulted in formulation of the policy, package provided along with various infrastructural facilities, and compares the provisions of Tehri Policy with other storage-based Projects/Organisations in India, and establishes the attractiveness of Tehri R&R Policy.
