Abstract

Power Transformer is a most important and capital intensive equipment in the switch yard. It is a vital link for transferring power supply from generating station to consumer premises. It is an important component for all electrical power systems and every pulse generated in the system, passes though several transformers before it is finally consumed in any appliances/equipments/industries. In short, transformer is an integral part of any electrical system, as one can't think about electrical system without transformer.

Failure of Power transformer leads to huge loss by way of its repairs and loss of revenue due to interruption of power supply. It is a static device and gives trouble free service for years together, if the transformer is manufactured, installed, commissioned and maintained properly. A closed condition monitoring of Power transformer will definitely provide trouble free service for a longer period and avert premature failure/material damage.
