Abstract

Hemavathy reservoir project created by constructing a dam across river Hemavathy in Hassan district of Karnataka to store 1050.60 Mcum (37. 10 TMC) of water and to irrigate 700751 acres during Khariff and Rabi seasons. The nelwork of canal consists of Hemavathy left bank canal, Hemavathy right bank canal, Hemavathi Right Bank High level canal, Tumkur branch canal and Nagamangala branch canal. The total utilization proposed for the project is 56.67 TMC including drinking water needs and evaporation losses. The project is an ongoing project and the total atchkat created to end of March 2008 is 5,82,060 acres. The water is being allowed for irrigation to 1,53,000 acres and on the trial basis for balance area created. There is violation of cropping pattern. To have a management solution for managing the available water resource in an equitable manner, the system was studied by using MASSCOTE Approach.
