Abstract

In thermal power stations, water is considered to be as one of the most important input. Its purity results in the healthiness of most of the components of power stations. Condenser is one of the important components which finally dictate the performance of the plant. Leakage in condenser allow the ingress of cooling water (raw water) vis – a – vis salts present in it to enter into the water cycle which upset the water chemistry and unit/plant performance. In the present paper the impact of impurities in water due to condenser leakage, its prevention, the mechanism of turbine deposit formation, failure of steam turbine blades and a case study of a 210 MWe unit were discussed.
