Chamera-II Power Station (3 x 100 MW) is a run of the river scheme with small pondage to harness the hydro power potential of river Ravi. It is located in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The project comprises of a 43 m high, 118.5 m long concrete gravity dam with 7.0 m dia., 7.83 Km long head race tunnel. The underground power house with installed capacity of 300 MW houses 3 units of 100 MW capacity each designed to operate under the net rated head of 243 m and designed to generate 1499.89 million units in a 90% dependable year with 95% machine availability. Unit I, II and III of the power station were commissioned in the month Oct-2003, Dec-2003 and Feb-2004 respectively. In the wee hours of 07.08.2020 ‘Fire incident’ occurred in Generating Unit # I & II (Unit# II: 3:43 AM and Unit #I: 08:58 AM) and both the units-were tripped on 3 phase differential protection. The major restoration work for replacement of Core and winding of both Stators excluding works pertaining to rotors was awarded to M/s GE Power India Ltd. Servicing/Reconditioning of Rotor winding/assemblies of Unit # I & II was taken up by the power station for enhancing its useful life.
