Abstract

From the year 1910, when India passed its first act on the Power Sector, until the year 1991, the sector did not have any substantial structural changes. This span of time spanned over eight decades. During the period of liberalisation, the sector began to attract private investment, and in 2003, with the passage of the electrical Act 2003, legislation was adopted for the purpose of creating an environment that is favourable to the development of the electrical business. These laws relate to the generation, transmission, distribution, trading, and use of electricity. Following that, succeeding years saw the introduction of Electricity Amendment Bills in 2014, 2018, and 2021 respectively.

A separate reform is necessary in order to meet the ever-increasing need for environmentally friendly energy sources, with a particular emphasis on specialised sources such as hydrogen. The purpose of this article is to provide an analysis and evaluation of the most important aspects of India’s Green Hydrogen Policy 2022, as well as the current situation in the Indian Power Sector, with a particular focus on the integration of clean sources of power generation with conventional sources. The assessment also includes an analysis of global regulations in the hydrogen area, an evaluation of best practises, and a forecast of the role that investments by eco-system stakeholders will play in helping to make it effective.
