Abstract

Since times immemorial energy is considered synonymous with life. Spiritually, it is understood that life in itself is a subtle form of energy acting within other universal sources of energy. Socially also the same is understood and recognized to a great extent, without much of scientific evidence. This paper helps todevelop an understanding about quantum of energy and analyzes the energy requirements of the human body. This paper shall help understand and appreciate a unit of energy, in terms of human efforts, required to produce the equivalent amount of mechanical work in real world. It estimates the amount of energy that a person needs during his entire lifespan, using various methodology like the amount of energy a person consumes in the form of food, amount of energy a person burns for his routine body functions in daily mechanical activities, like heartbeat, breathing, metabolism, heat dissipation etc.
