Abstract

Hydropower is one of the world's most widely used renewable energy resource which contributes in meeting the renewable energy targets/ requirements in addition to fulfilling the water requirements. Enhancing the generation capability of hydro plants by Up-rating/ R&M & tapping the hidden hydro potential has gained attention and therefore feasibility of exploitation of the un tapped/ hidden potential in existing hydropower facilities is now being explored. Hydrokinetic energy is one such energy solution that can be utilized in Hydro Plants for generating the additional power from the tailrace waters. This article focuses on one such endeavour of Hydro Kinetic Turbine and benefits of its installation in the tail race of existing hydro power plants.
