Various proposals for diversion of nallas and rivers are received in C.O.D. from private companies involved in mining activities or from thermal power stations where sometimes rivers and local nallas pass through the active mining areas or through ash dumps. Diversion is necessary so that the area below the nalla/river can be utilized for mining or for ash dumping.
This article presents a practical and pragmatic approach for designing a diversion channel in alluvial soil taking in to consideration the various theories proposed by different engineers.
