Abstract

This article delves into the pivotal role renewable energy plays in realizing India's vision of an “Atmanirbhar Bharat” or self reliant India. It dissects the country's current dependence on fossil fuels and conventional energy sources, highlighting the-economic and operational challenges that arise from this reliance and further illustrating how renewable energy offers a-sustainable solution to these issues. The energy sector of India being heavily reliant on imports and coal-based production, is burdened by inflationary pressures, further worsened by a weakening currency and infrastructure limitations. This dual dependency paves the path to a vicious cycle of energy inflation and price instability, hindering India to achieve it's goal of “true energy independence”. Thus, this article by elucidating the economic and operation benefits of renewable energy-emphasizes the need of strategic investments in renewable energy infrastructure to lead India to an energy-independent-future through innovative financial solutions. It concludes by highlighting IREDA's role as India's largest pure play green financing NBFC in fostering the nation's renewable energy goals through its financing initiatives with the message of “Economic prudence is the cornerstone of achieving true Atmanirbhar Bharat”.
