Sediment load accumulating in the reservoir is a threat to the reservoir as well as services provided by the reservoir. The decrease in the storage of the reservoir due to the deposition of the sediment will impact the flood carrying capacity, water supply, water quality and can even lead to the chances of dam failures. It is very much necessary to re-estimate the life of a reservoir as the estimated life during the design might not be available due to the sedimentation. There are various numerical methods available for the estimation of sediment accumulation and life of reservoir but they are a time taking and complex methods. With the advancement in time, lots of machine learning models are available having a good efficiency in the forecasting and regression domain. Machine learning model predicts new data through available experimental data and finding out the rules behind the data. The current study focuses on the application of machine learning model in the re-estimation of life of reservoir.
