Abstract

Irrigation has been in practice in India for over a number of years. It is a common practice to construct earthen dam across rivers and store the water. The stored water may be used for the purpose of irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, drinking water or industrial water supply etc. After independence in 1947, a good number of earthen dams have been constructed and are under construction in India.

In this paper, efforts have been made to discuss only the various aspects of instruments and their important role in earthen dam in Maharashtra. The general guide lines for working out satisfactory layout, types of instruments in Urmodi earthen dam have been outlined.
