Abstract

Hydro Power Stations have multiple units and the type of hydro turbine used may depend on the reservoir head existing for the station. To operate the unit continuously without any outage, it needs skillful operator well versed with the operation of the plant. A software solution has been attempted here, to develop operator training simulator to provide training to the operator. The hydro plant model has been configured and tested for a specific hydro station having three Pelton Turbines each of 40 MW.

The simulation software consists of HMI software to create the control room environment for the operator to carryout the plant operations which are possible from unit control room, virtual plant model software to have the dynamic response of the plant process parameters depending on the operating conditions existing at any instant of time and Instructor station software to enable the Instructor to carry out the training session efficiently with different instructor station features and virtual control and instrumentation software.

The software may also be customised for any Hydro station by changing the respective station parameters.
