Power, in the form of electricity, is considered the back bone of modern society and plays a vital role in the economic development of any country. If a country has the resources to generate the power at an affordable price, its citizens benefit through improvements in their social and economic lives. During the last century, hydropower has made an important and significant contribution to meeting the energy needs of countries. In developed countries, most of the hydropower potential has already been harnessed. However, the situation is different in developing countries such as India. In particular, in India, hydro power generation has not been adequately harnessed due to stiff resistance of local people for their apprehension about large displacement, huge submergence, inadequate land compensation, and ecological, environmental and forest-related issues.
In this research article we have conducted a case study of one of the leading hydroelectricity generating organizations, Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), where further capacity addition can be harnessed. Therefore, it is very important to identify the areas where Odisha Hydro power has the potential to add more capacity to its portfolio.
