1Former Chief Engineer,
2Former Executive Director,
The global switch to renewable distributed energy resources (DERs) has passed a “positive tipping point” where solar and-wind power will become even cheaper and more widespread, according to two United Nations reports released 22nd July 2025, describing a bright spot amid otherwise gloomy progress to curb climate change. The global renewables growth has been mostly in developed countries such as China, India and Brazil. Without naming US Admin ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’(OBBBA), UN Chief warned ‘nations hanging on to fossil fuels been heading down a dangerous path that would not protect their economies, they are sabotaging them thru ‘Driving up costs’, ‘Undermining competitiveness’ and ‘Locking in stranded assets’.
DERs (rooftop solar, battery storage, electric vehicles, and demand-side flexibility) are reshaping how electricity is generated, managed, and consumed. The grids equipped with DERs continue serving balance loads on the same distribution network, meeting local needs with local generation. Full utilization of DER requires advancements in the-planning, design and operation of the electric distribution grid.
DERs and DERMS platform stake center stage in grid transformation, California Energy Commission developed Distributed Energy Resource Value Estimation Tool (DER-VET™), and DERMS capability are treading towards effective deployment-of DERs
The document intends discussing Optimizing of the grid through demand-side and DER management programs, Distributed Energy Resources Management System (DERMS), ’DERs and DERMS platform stake center stage in grid-transformation’, Protection of DERs, DERMs Use-Cases, Best DERMs Providers, CEA- Connectivity of DERs to Grid and-so on
