There are several methods used for ground improvement and one of the most popular method is called grouting. Grouting in general means drilling holes into the ground and injecting cement, bentonite or other chemicals as may be required to improve the ground properties. These properties, generally, are the strength or the permeability or both. In this paper various kinds of grouting operations are discussed, such as permeation, compaction, infiltration or jet grouting. The conditions under which one method becomes more effective than others are discussed with the hope that geotechnical engineers will find this information useful and it will help them select appropriate method and technique for their problems.
