Abstract

Aqueduct water resource structure is built in peculiar site conditions and lots of complexities are involved. Theories of planning and hydraulic design are not yet adequately available. Detailed theories as well as theories with integrated approach are hardly available in standard books, manuals and codes of practices. Hence the designer has to deal with his knowhow and with the help of lot of basic theories. Therefore, the aqueduct trough designed with limited theories may lead to failure of hydraulics of the moving water in the canal and trough, and uneconomical superstructure and sub-structure. While dealing with hydraulic design the theories of open channel flow have to be necessarily applied. This paper presents the integration theories applicable for hydraulic design of aqueduct trough and significance of boundary roughness of trough for cost effective aqueduct structure.
