The main aim of a Hydro Power Plant Maintenance Management System (MMS) is to reduce downtime of the individual generating units and to ensure continuous operation of an entire power plant. This objective can be achieved mainly by carrying out the maintenance of individual power plant equipment in a more efficient and effective manner with the laid down maintenance strategy. Also the framework of MMS system which is deployed in the plant should facilitate to achieve the maintenance objectives. This paper brings out the essential functional requirements which are to be present in the MMS system used for carrying out day-to-day maintenance activities in a Power Plant. In line with these requirements an intranet based Maintenance Management System (MMS-H) for Hydro Power Plants indigenously developed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is presented in this paper. The system is commercially supplied to few Hydro Power Plants in India.
