Abstract

An effort has been made to develop computer model for recharging groundwater through wells installed in basin incorporating developed solutions (Singh and Shakya, 2006, Singh et al., 1996) for piezometric head and recharge rate through wells in single and two leaky aquifers under constant head condition. The well interference theory has also been developed for net driving head under gravity flow through constant head well and incorporated in computer model for estimating volume of water recharge through a cluster of wells installed in agricultural lands of Shaldahari watershed near Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, Calcultta, India using various hydrological and hydro geological constants. The recharge depth, next day ponding depth, driving head of the individual well with number of wells in operation and total volume of water recharge on each day have been computed through computer model. The recharge operation was demonstrated through exemplary watershed. The total amount of water recharged and the total time required to drain out surface waterlogging from the agricultural lands have also been computed.
