Comparison of earhting practices for sub-station- sharing of experieces of Afro-Asian region

Adequacy of earthing system in any electrical system is well recognized matter worldwide. Quality Operation of power system is quite dependent on the earthing system. Everybody has accepted the role of earthing for the safety of personnel and equipment. IEEE-Std 80–2000 is well accepted over the world for the guideline on earthing for AC Sub-station.

This paper describes practices adopted for earthing system in various countries of Afro Asian region. It covers mainly practices adopted in HV and EHV sub stations at India,Srilanka China,Kenya,Ghana,Ethyopia,and Nigeria.The content is based on the experience of author on the substation business handled at various level.This sharing of experience may be useful for the engineers and practicing personnel for building up of confidence.
