Geosynthetics are being used extensively the world over, both in new construction and in rehabilitation of water resources projects - dams, reservoirs and canals. There are also guidelines available through ICOLD and ICID. This Keynote Paper traces the application of the geosynthetics in the various projects around the world and lists the limited applications in India. It highlights the potential benefits that emerge in their usage.
