Abstract

Power is a critical resource for economical development in order to spur economic growth in a liberalized environment for any developing country like India. Availability of Electrical Power has become the prime need to develop the economical status for competing with others in various international activities. Orissa as a whole has experienced the utilization of electrical energy by welcoming various technocrats, industrialists and developers in the industrial field like steel, aluminium and others. The uptrend economical status is the bright example of industrial growth in the state. Particularly Western Orissa has been awarded the offer of welcoming these groups to share the industrial activities for the up coming economical growth of the state.

Though the availability of Electrical Power is the basic need but a reasonablebl end of quality and reliability can only guide the nation or the individual to think for the road to progress. The poor and erratic quality of power supply adds to the cost of goods and services, thereby affecting the international cost competitiveness. Poor power quality affects reliable operation of electrical equipments. So reliability also depends upon the power quality.

Power quality, although non-measurable in conventional way, means deviation of power supply from steady, normal, 50 Hz voltage of sinusoidal waveform. The impact of its deviation on electrical installation and equipment may vary from case to case, but is harmful in nature. One may wish or not “Quality and Reliability” is bound to be a catch-word of coming times.

This paper describes a practical study, for obtaining UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) to the limited load centers of WESTERN ORISSA. With the available distribution network scheme, system equipment and co-ordination among them by the utilization of few innovative concepts, an attempt has been established to develop the scheme of un-interrupted supply scheme to the limited load centers of WESTERN ORISSA. Particularly the concepts like use of NODAL TRANSFORMERS (NTR), LOAD ACCESSED DIRECTIONAL RELAYS (LADR) and Fault Free Auto closing of breaker scheme have been considered as the special innovative ideas and been emphasized for developing this study.
