Abstract

Language, in the present arena, has become one of the hallmarks of modernization. It plays a major role in the advancements of all fields. Language teaching, in the yester years, was not of much significance, but now the trend has totally changed in the sense that teaching of foreign languages has gained utmost importance in schools, professional colleges and universities similar to the teaching of English, an international language. The research paper begins with an introduction on the significance of teaching French as a foreign language in all academic institutes, moves with the primary reasons for teaching of French, methodology of teaching French and suggests some of the leading centres of excellence for learners of French, and measures for enhancing the communicative competence or rather the proficiency level of learning of French.
