Abstract

With the advent of the new technologies, new product coming into the market and set of various new industries like fertilizers, petro-chemicals, refining, steel production use of machines has increased into the organisation. With this multiple product lines, limiting space the complexities of layout has increased which it self posses industrial unit to the risk of various hazards. This has lead to the increased number of accidents involving workers. Accidents not only affect workers loosing their livelihood but also employers in terms of compensation to be paid to the workers, hampered production, legal litigation, down morale of co-workers etc. Accidents are a significant cause of dispute between workers and management. However, the Factories Act, 1948 has laid down certain measures for the safety of workers employed in the factories. This study aims to identify the level of awareness towards provisions of safety laid Factories Act 1948, amongst the workers working in different public and private organisation in Haryana state and thereafter assess the level of implementation of these provision within the organizational setting. It was found in result that most of the workers are aware of the provisions but on the name of legislations they are not getting what they deserve to get. Eye protection, safety against explosive and gases, and means to emergency access are some areas that need to be given focus on.
