Abstract

An attempt is made in the paper to examine the nature and compatibility of employee loyalty and whistle blowing from the perspective of business ethics. The argument in the paper begins with the nature and analysis of employer-employee relation and in particular employee loyalty in the act of whistle blowing. Employee loyalty is proposed to be not merely to follow orders in the business organization but a commitment to the best interests and goals of the business organization. The cultivation of such a disposition of loyalty as a moral justification of whistle blowing, it is argued, demands an understanding and examination of one's role and responsibilities in the business organization. An employee is expected to cultivate and practice loyalty in accordance with objective ethical truth pertaining to true interests and goals of the business organization. It is argued that such a cultivation and practice of employee loyalty in the business organization gets translated into his living a good human life.
