Abstract

Rural tourism, one of the important components of rural development, refers to any tourism activity which takes place in rural locations, thereby benefiting the local people economically and socially. The concept of rural tourism may be a new concept in India but, in European countries and other parts of the world, it is being practiced since several years. Rural tourism not only creates employment opportunities for the rural inhabitants but also increases social and national integration through the interaction/exchange of different art, culture, crafts, traditions etc. Besides these rural tourism helps to reverse rural-urban migration to some extent and also improve urban and rural market linkages.
