Abstract

India has a very ancient culture and civilisation. Closely associated with this ancient and rich heritage are the values of liberalism and internationalism that is best epitomised in the concept “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”. A number of agencies are rendering their valuable services to the educational development in the modern India like The Central Advisory Board of Education, The National Board for Audio-Visual Education, The Central Social Welfare Board, The University Grants Commission, All India Institute of Technical Education, Bar Council, Dental Council, All India Council for Secondary Education, All India Council for Elementary Education, Central Hindi Directorate, National Council of Educational Research and Training. The main issues concerning higher education includes multiplicity of regulating agencies, regional imbalances, access, equity/inclusive education, quality,expansion, affordability, relevance. The paper has attempted to provide statistical profile of issues concerning higher education in India.
