In Oman, women form a large proportion of the working population esp. in the hospitality sector. However, it is common knowledge that a very few women occupy top managerial positions. This gives ample reason to believe that there are barriers to their career advancement. This study focuses on finding out the barriers that exist – information was gathered by administering a questionnaire to a cross section of women employees at various levels and across various subsectors in the hospitality sector in Oman. Secondary data gathered from published material and websites was also used. Analysis of the data collected using Chi-Square test revealed that there is an association between the barriers and career advancement of women in the hospitality sector. Further, it was found that there also exists a correlation amongst the barriers identified.
