This paper begins with the definition of language and the importance of language teaching in the present context and moves with description of certain approaches towards language teaching. The paper further explains discourse in language and defines a task-based approach and highlights the advantages of the task-based approach in language-teaching. The paper brings out the difference between use and usage in language. The paper ends with concrete points that justify task-based approach as an alternative to other approaches towards language-teaching.
