Influence of interactional relationship on stress among women executives in software company in Chennai

Abstract

Stress arises when a person is unable to meet the demands of the situation owing to his mental and/or physical incapacity. It also arises when the external environment is not conductive for a person to discharge his duties. Occupational stress and workplace health have become issues of great concern over the last decade, both internationally and nationally. Given the value of work in this society, the amount of time spent at work and the current changes that are affecting the nature of work, it is not surprising that work stress appears to be increasing. The weighted mean score indicates that stress related factors, need to hit targets and lack of regular breaks are always affecting the working life of women executives. The results indicate that women executives are always experiencing with headaches and backaches while they are rarely experiencing palpitations or rapid heartbeat and they have often diabetic problems. It is clear that they are always eating compulsively or too fast and don't sleep properly and they are sometimes not getting the sense of accomplishment and blood over incidents.

The analysis shows that about 56.00 per cent are having medium level of stress followed by low level (35.60) and high level (7.70 per cent) of stress. The multiple linear regression model indicate that the Interactional relationship of inferiority and responsibility are statistically significant at one per cent level of significance and are positively influencing the level of stress among the women executives. The inter personal relationships of coordination, communication, friendship and negotiation are also statistically significant at one per cent of level of significance but, these factors are negatively influencing the level of stress among the women executives of Software company in Chennai. In order to strengthen the Interactional relationship both at work and life, proper work-life balance strategies should be adopted. The practices of Yoga and meditation should be practiced by women executives for balancing both work and family consequences besides proper mediation.
