Revitalization of a defunct heritage zone into a recreation hub: A case of Hauz Khas complex

Delhi with its opulent past and splendiferous heritage epitomizes the existence of a glorious city. Of them yriad of edifices that stipple the vast expanse of the territory of Delhi, there are handfuls those deserve to be truly called ‘terra incognita’ or unexplored region. Hauz Khas Complex is one such area. It's a prime destination that has been testimony to Delhi's splendid and rich history. In addition to being a repository of heritage, Hauz Khas functions as the coveted open space that caters to the passive recreational needs of the people. Ironically, the Hauz Khas Complex that plays a vital role in fulfilling the recreational needs of the population lies in a state of sheer neglect and oblivion. Its reservoir, pathways and the Complex as a whole has fallen prey to government apathy. Provisions need to be taken to rejuvenate the Complex and help restore its lost aura. The present study is an attempt to understand the existing problems tormenting the Hauz Khas Complex and suggest measures for enhancing the passive recreation potential of the same. The site shall be understood and analyzed at both micro and macro level in order to develop an understanding of the site and suggest an appropriate recreation proposal in order to harness its potential optimally.
