The institutional environment, as one of the contextual environmental factors, is considered to be highly important in the entrepreneurship development of any economy. Institutional environment means an arrangement of institutions in an economy that forms an important part of the entrepreneurial ecosystem having key impact on its entrepreneurship development process. The paper presents a systematic review of the literature on the role of institutional environment in entrepreneurship development of economies throughout the world. The main objective is to highlight the studies under taken in the direction of the institutional environment, its impact on entrepreneurship development throughout the world and integrate the findings on the basis of the understanding obtained from this review.
