Employee satisfaction is essential to the success of any business. A high rate of employee contentedness is directly related to a lower turnover rate. Thus, keeping employees’ satisfied with their careers should be a major priority for every employer. While this is a well-known fact in management practices, economic downturns like the current one seem to cause employers to ignore it. Rewards and recognition are given when an organization wants to motivate employees in achieving a goal or when employees have accomplished an organizational objective. Rewards and recognition vary in definition but still convey the same idea of distinguishing and motivating employees. These perks can be given at anytime, specifically at the beginning, middle, or end of a company goal just as long as they align the incentives with an organization's mission and goals. When properly implemented, rewards and recognition helps aid a company in the pursuit of strategic and operational goals. The present study investigates this relationship Between employee rewards and job satisfaction of jaffna teaching hospital.Primary data was collected using questionnaire developed for each category of employees. 30 samples were randomly selected from the employees in jaffna teaching hospital. Employee rewards and job satisfaction indices, percentage, Correlation and Regression analysis, were the main tools used in the analysis.This research reveals that the job satisfaction regarding the staff commitment, absenteeism and turnover of the staff of this hospital is influenced by the intrinsic and extrinsic reward system of the government of srilanka. It is clearly revealed by that there is a considerable positive relationship (+0.451) between the reward system and total job satisfaction of Jaffna district hospital. At the same there is a low negative relationship between the reward system and the absenteeism and staff turnover.
