Abstract

Internet is now more than four decades old. Many regard it as the biggest invention of 21st century. The benefits of internet have overshadowed some of its adverse impacts in the field of cyber crime and the society. I will not go into the whole gamut of the role of internet our lives but will just deal with the ever increasing dominance of the social networking on the teens and youth. Their self detention in the virtual world of friendship and break ups in the virtual world is creating a new trend in the relationship where imaginary make believe and raising the people to the pedestal without a single physical interaction is breaking the emotional and intellectual chords of the youth. For many young lads who are in touch with me I have noted that their use of internet is limited to hours of chatting and hooked to Facebook or orkut just to name two of the numerous friendship sites. The internet where there is no dearth of knowledge which can improve our intellectual and spiritual side goes untapped by the youths addicted to the social networking sites.
