Abstract

The state of Punjab contributes a lot to India in the agricultural production and to fulfill the requisite need of food grain, which caters the entire nation. There is equivocation in the mind of the farmer that, whether the acts prevailing in the region are steadfast for the welfare and whether the act fulfills the endurance of systems and processes. The present paper makes an attempt to review the amenity of the act with respect to the present need of farmers in Punjab. The economic conditions of the farmers in the Punjab region are not the same. Some are holding large piece of land and they have adequate means for buying seeds, fertilizer, pesticide and the things needed in the agriculture. But, a large number of farmers are having small pieces of land. They do not have adequate means to buy the seeds, pesticide, fertilizer and the things needed for agriculture, so, they are largely dependent on the loans from government, banks, moneylenders and co-operative societies. There exists state government or central government which is the exclusive buyer of the crops from the farmers at the price decided by the state government. This may vary time to time. The paper also deals with as to from where the problem is initiated, which, results in the farmer suffering from the exploitation and getting fewer amounts for his crop. The state has to amend his Agriculture Produce Market committee act so the farmers are free to sell grains and vegetables to their designated mandis. Sustainability in the agriculture is to be under a compulsion of the time. The need of the governmental reforms is very much to ensure the sustainable growth of agriculture in the region. There is requirement of amendments in the Punjab Agriculture Produce Markets Act and the act also needs to include the concept of organic farming and new researched mode of agriculture which will ensure the growth of agriculture production without compromising the rights of the farmers whichwill ensure the growth of agriculture production without compromising the rights of the farmers which are crucial for them.
