Retailing as an economic activity has always been considered as an important part of everyday lives. Retail has been evolving into hi-tech business with new formats emerging, keeping in mind consumers changing preference and fast moving trend in consumer behavior. Consumers spend their income on boutiques, restaurant, and superstores etc. which give rise to economy. The study is undertaken to show the present structure of Indian retail and the share of various retail segments in organized and traditional retail. Further it also shows penetration of organized retail in food and grocery retail is comparatively low to other segments. The study also covers the trends which are shaping organized retail in India. The success of any retailing activity depends on consumer, so it is important to understand the consumer behavior.
