Exploring the application of lean principles to management education in India

Though the emergence of lean production is associated with manufacturing industry, there are many relevant examples of applying lean principles to service sector too. Education sector can also be benefited by lean approach and studies show that it can be implemented in Higher Education as well. The management education in India is undergoing major changes because of mushrooming of management institutes, deteriorated quality of education, increased unemployment of management graduates and threat of foreign institutes entering in India. Identification of customer value and aligning efforts to deliver it, will result in providing better learning experience to management students. This approach needs understanding wastes in education and eliminating them to improve quality of service delivery to students as primary customers and parents, industry and society as secondary customers of management education. The research attempts to provide an insight into management education as service process and exploring the areas of applying lean principles to improve delivery of learning experience.
