Abstract

The retail landscape in India has witnessed many landmark changes in the last decade and this is not denying the fact that it is regarded as one of the pillars of the Indian economy accounting about 14 to 15% of its GDP and employing about 40 million people. Add on to this is the much sought after policy reformations announced by the Indian government in single brand and multi brand retailing amidst the uproar across various segments of our population. As it is being argued that the organised and the unorganised sector is bound to co- exist and bring about sustainable development to our country - this paper tries to bring to fore the manpower requirements for this sector if it is to change the destiny of our country in the years ahead.
