Abstract

The present study was conducted to assess the attitude of secondary school students towards mathematics. A sample comprised of 200 students i.e.100 from Government and 100 from private/public secondary schools. These male and female secondary school students belong to rural and urban areas of District Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh. For this purpose data was collected using ‘Attitude towards Mathematics Scale (ATMS)’ constructed by Dr.S.C.Gakhar >and Rajni. t-values were calculated on attitude towards mathematics for finding the significant differences between male & female, rural & urban and between students belonging to rural & urban areas. The results indicated that female students attitude towards mathematics were significantly favourable than male students. Further, rural students rated more on attitude towards mathematics than their counterparts. The result also indicated that there was no significant difference in attitude towards mathematics of Government and private/public secondary school students.
