This paper examines the role of trade union in Jute Mills by taking sample of 162 respondents i.e Owners, CEO/GM, Sr Manager, Personnel Manager, Workers & Members Associate with Trade Union & Others from the state of West Bengal and near by area. The Jute Industry was started in 1885. Its importance to the economy lies in its capacity to earn foreign exchange. The total number of looms installed in 69 units was about 44900 and the industry accounts for 30% of the world output of Jute. Besides providing direct employment to about 2.5 lakh persons, nearly 40 lakh families derive their living from Jute Cultivation. In this context an attempt had been made to conduct the details study on the role of trade union in jute mills in west Bengal. Keeping the view of the nature of study, how far the trade union had been succeeded in playing their role were studied in this paper.
