Abstract

We know that India has set up Special Economic Zones (SEZs) to look at from this angle in 2005. In this context there is need to find out the answer that whether exports are being generated from SEZs or not? Whether employment is being generated or not? To give the answer of the above problem the researcher evaluated the performance of SEZs in India and also assessed the impact of SEZ on Export and Employment. The descriptive method of research is used in this study. The data analysis revealed that the developers of SEZ units from Primary and secondary sector of the economy is not come forward to set up SEZ in India. The contribution of exports from SEZs to the overall exports from India has increased from 4.7 per cent in 2003–04 to 26 per cent in 2009–10. The growth of export of SEZ over last year is increased rapidly as compared to growth of export over last year. The employment generated by SEZ units became 6.27 times in 2012. This indicates the efficient performance of the SEZ in India. There is needed to acquire fallow ground instead under fertilizer lands, the farmer or owner of the land should properly rehabilitation and give them rational cost of their lands, the government may decide transparent and permanent rules and regulation for acquisition of land for SEZ. The SEZ units may be productive and produce more employability and should emphasis on how to increase the export in the form of goods and services.
