Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has assumed a new meaning in today's world, given that it has extended the boundaries of the firm into the society. This paper statistically reveals the need for mandatory CSR initiatives in India. In this paper we have analyzed the disclosure patterns of CSR practices among top 100 Indian corporate. An attempt to analyze the current voluntary CSR compliance of the selected companies with the new mandatory norm of CSR has been made in this study. The study also reveals the sector wise as well as CSR area wise disclosure patterns. The association between choice of the CSR area and Industry Sector has been examined. The relationship of Disclosure score with the profitability of the firm has also been examined. All the results clearly indicate the primitive stage of CSR in India and hence they justify the need of the new mandatory CSR norm.
