Abstract

With enormous scope for value addition, increase in the consumption of processed food products in India and many fiscal incentives being planned by the government, this sector is poised to maintain the growth momentum in the future. Moreover, the advent of the WTO regime and the possibility of reduced subsidies in developed countries can add to India's strengths in food production and processing industry. This paper covers the overview of the Food Processing Sector; various segments in the sector; market trends & growth drivers; investment, employment and exports of the sector: opportunities & challenges; and policy initiatives of the Government to boost the Food Processing Sector on the country.
