Consumption of chemical fertilizers in Haryana: An empirical study

Chemical fertilizers are key element of modern technology and have played an important role in agriculture production growth. However, the demand supply gap of fertilizers in India has increased in recent times due to dependency on imports. This study examines the growth and consumption pattern of chemical fertilizers in Haryana, based on secondary data for the period 1966–67 to 2011–12. It is shown that there was a substantial increase in the consumption of fertilizers in the state and across the districts during the study period. Among the districts, Sirsa district recorded the highest percentage increase in the consumption of NPK. The range of CSS has been 7.39106 to-4.1156 for Sirsa and Panchkula respectively.
