Abstract

Gandhakadi Yoga is a modified form of the drug suggested for Loha Sevanajanya Vikara Prashamana (diseases/complications due to intake of Iron/iron containing drugs and iron overload) in Ayurveda Prakasha and can be used as iron chelator which might help to decrease the iron overload. The present study was carried out to standardize the finished product Gandhakadi Yoga tablets and establish the physico-chemical parameters for the same which may serve as bench mark for future studies. Physico-chemical analysis revealed pH (4.0), loss on drying (5.25%w/w), total ash value (7.96%w/w), acid insoluble ash (1.49%w/w), water soluble extract (15.27%w/w), methanol soluble extract (10.95%w/w), solubility in Carbon disulphide (11.24%w/w) and High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) at 254nm and 366nm resulted into 5 and 6 spots respectively.
