Abstract

Education is the training for real life. Its curriculum shapes the direction and nature of that training. True development is the human resource development, which guides all other developments. Thus, sustainability in development rests on the sustainability character of education curriculum. The Delors Commission Report's (1996) four pillars of education, if incorporated in our curriculum, could have played a positive role in this direction. Sustainability suffers mainly due to blind following of western philosophy, neglect to our own treasure within, compartmentalization and mechanization of education, as well as biasness in our curriculum. Problems are also arising due to non-addressing the professional needs of majority population (94.3%), - who are dropouts in our country. There is an urgent need of restructuring the whole education curriculum in the light of requirements for ‘Education for 21st Century’ – for the sake of sustainably developed better tomorrow.
