Abstract

Stress is an emotional or physical reaction to change. People experience stress at different levels and different facets of our life. Stress prevails at work and at home, and it becomes destructive when it reaches an intensity that obstructs daily activities. The purpose of this study is to capture and compare the impact of stress on academic staff at gender level in Coimbatore. Convenience sampling method was used to collect data from 51 staffs from a college in Coimbatore. The study revealed that the major stress factors influencing male and female staffs have varied. Male staff experienced high levels of stress relating to economic insufficiency, sickness of family members, heavy work, feeling of boredom whereas female staff experienced high level of stress related to children education, co-operation among family members and inability to manage time.
