Abstract

Agricultural sector plays a strategic role in the process of economic development of a country. It has already made a significant contribution to the economic prosperity of advanced countries and its role in the economic development of less developed countries is of vital importance. Self-sufficiency in food gives greater confidence and freedom to a country than in any other commodity. In India rice is the staple food and it is produced in Thanjavur district more than 58% of cultivable area. Famers adopt different methods to increase the production and to reduce cost of production in order to maximize the income in rice cultivation.
