Abstract

The study aims to measure inter-personal communication and level of employee commitment among journalists in select media houses, especially in Chandigarh and some select states. The study tries to gauge on the relationship between inter-personal communication and employee commitment.

The attempt is not only to find the level of inter-personal communication within these organizations, but also find areas of improvement and its impact on employee commitment. For this the instrument in the book of Udai Pareek ‘Journalists Styles: Transactional Styles Inventory-Journalism (TSI-J) will be used. It gives data on 12 transactional styles and effectiveness of six functions of journalists and works on a 5 point scale. It tests on parameters like nurturing, regulating, task, adaptive, assertive and innovate.

The perceived levels of organizational commitment will be measured by the three-factor commitment scale of Meyer and Allen (1991, 1997).

Judgmental Sampling Technique will be used to study a sample of 101 respondents. Of the media houses: journalists of Indian Express, The Tribune, Times of India and Hindustan Times will be studied by administrating a questionnaire.
